Leather Hippo Mat inspired by Gerd Arntz

11 Jan

This is my latest product – a Leather Hippo Mat by an ISOTYPE by Gerd Arntz.

I didn’t realized that the concept of visual communication was developed so many decades ago.  I have recently found out that it was pioneered by Otto Neurath. The work was significantly contributed by Gerd Arntz.  In my determination to continue the legacy of Otto Neurath, Despite the fact that some of Gerd Arntz’s pictograms are over eighty years old, they haven’t lost any of their strength.  Gerd draw more than 4000 ISOType in his career, I have decided to choose a this hippo icon.

This is a hippo drawn by Gerd Arntz as part of the “nature” series.  It’s just totally so cute !  I have decided to use it as a keyboard-mouse pad.  It’s also ideal as table mat.

If you arrange it nicely, there’s even a place for a cup !

This is Otto Neurath (1882 – 1945) – Austrian philosopher of science, sociologist, and political economist.  Neurath created ISOTYpe, a symbolic way of representing quantitative information via easily interpretable icons.

This is a picture of Gerd Arntz drawing “unemployment”.  You may find more of Gerd’s work @
